Writing Student-Friendly Learning Targets
Our district has done a lot lately with aligning learning targets to the Illinois Assessment Frameworks. (So, now that we're all done, we have to rework those to the Common Core Standards. Fun.) We base a lot of what we do on Rick Stiggins' work, but we've put our own spin on it.
The first document is a presentation on how to write student-friendly learning targets that a colleague of mine (Dorothy Nichols) and I wrote for the Raising Student Achievement Conference in St. Charles. Below that are some example of student-friendly learning targets, called "I can statements," that we have written from the Science Illinois Assessment Frameworks.

Tier 1 Interventions
This is a presentation that was given with three of my colleagues-Dorrie Nichols, Kirstin Murphy, and Todd Price. The focus of this presentation concerned the use of reading and comprehension strategies in the science and social studies classrooms as a form of Tier 1 Interventions (because Tier 1 at the high school level often looks different from middle school and elementary grades).
RtI & Differentiation
Below is a presentation I was lucky enough to do with Ms. Cecilia Franks at the National Louis University Essential RtI Conference on June 23rd, 2011. Our focus concerned how differentiated planning and learning is the first tier of RtI interventions, and gives an example of how I have differentiated using current Web 2.0 technology for my Biology classes. The link to the sample unit in the prezi below is here. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I beg that you forgive the ugliness of this prezi and focus on the message (I am still working on the fine art of prezi design).
Standards Based Scoring
This is a presentation that I gave at SDE's Midwest Differentiated Instruction Conference on July 21st, 2011. It is meant to provide a rationale for standards-based scoring, as well as an introduction to how to start implementation of standards-based scoring in classrooms.
